Your energy update for 2016 is a bit of a paradox. It’s rather funny. Usually we are making our intentions for the entire year on January 1st. Instead, the energies are asking us to wait a bit. Rather to re-review and tie up loose ends – anything left unfinished. Mercury goes retrograde Tuesday, January 5th. We are already in the shadow of Mercury Retrograde. When our communications planet does this, sometimes things can go a bit haywire. And at the same time, we must review our RE’s. Re-review, re-revise, re-refresh, re-redo. Re-review again! Also, 2016 brings us a 9 year in numerology. 9 is the number of completion. The energies are asking us to peel away that last onion layer. Anything left incomplete: relationships, career challenges, etc. These things will come up for release this year. Perhaps just a little bit left to peel away before you can begin anew, refreshed and clear. So take a breath this January and review your life and it’s lessons. Do the work. Forgive who or what needs forgiving; for them but mostly for you. Do what’s being called to your soul and become more free!

I Got You
The act of compassion rises above our mundane and fearful thoughts and worries. For those brief moments where we are drawn to care and offer freely of ourselves, with nothing in return, we are free of the “should’s”, “what if’s” and the monkey mind thoughts that plague us daily. For a moment, we step out of ourselves and open our hearts. Nothing else matters but sharing a loving moment with something outside ourselves.
On Dancing With the Stars last season, one of the Dance Pro’s was guiding her partner (former Backstreet Boy) when he forgot his step and where he was. It happens to everyone. We go blank for a moment. She immediately redirected him to look straight at her, said “I got you”, with such ferocity and compassion and he completed his dance routine flawlessly thereafter. Just a moment of caring to help lift up another. Granted she was in the competition with him, but it wasn’t about winning. It was about offering a little helping hand to let him know she’s with him, she cares and it’s all going to be okay. We can do this is small and big ways every day with those around us. Wherever we are drawn and called to do something, anything. Even something small makes a huge impact on another’s life.
Recently, a friend of mine’s Husband died unexpectedly. It’s a shock and still seems unreal. And when you’re grieving it doesn’t matter what anyone else does to help you. Their grief is not as close to your grief. So for her, she just needs to know those that care about her are there. And she needs to know they are there long after the funeral. I’m doing my best to be that as well.
Showing we care and truly feeling it, allows our hearts to overflow with love and light. Compassion fills the world with hope. Hope for more than just whatever is happening in the moment. Because there is…sooo much more. With compassion comes healing. Divine powerful healing. Compassion is powerful. Joy and peace are connected to compassion. I can’t think of a better way to ease into 2016.
I shared this list in last month’s newsletter. But it is so relevant to beginning 2016 and assisting you in aligning with YOUR inner authentic truth and passions. Express YOURSELF this new year:
- Create a vision board. Align your intentions to what you desire. View this board daily as you pass it by and in meditation.
- Meditate, get clear. At least five minutes daily will attune you to your intuition and get clear messages.
- Take inspired action. As you meditate, you gain a strong pull and knowing of what you should do (if anything) regarding your current challenge or situation. Take that action. Sometimes, it’s hard to jump in, but in the end the result is far better than if you hadn’t take that action step. You received the guidance for a reason.
- Surrender to what is. Surrender to whatever you are meant to do, then let go.
- Get out in nature; connect to Source in this Powerful way. This brings everything into perspective once again. Breathe it in.
- Get out your healing gems (stones and crystals) while you meditate and attune to your desire. “Gemstones attune the energies and vibrations in your body and your space to align you with wellness and health. Hold them in your hands while you meditate, create a wellness altar space in your home, place them next to your bedside while you sleep. Carry them with you through the day.” ~ SageGoddess.com
- Aromatherapy: The sense of smell connects directly to your brain and channels your chi/energy. Look up essential oils and see what they mean. Retain the ones that you resonate with. See if you can go to a metaphysical store that has a few that you can test and smell. You’ll know the ones with the scent that calls to you. 8. Work your magickal spells to bring about a peace, harmony and/or positive outcome for the highest and best good of all always. (Do this with your tools that you resonate with. And when you reach the core of your ceremony feel the desired outcome to your core. Feel that energy of peace, harmony and/or positive outcome. Visualize it in your mind’s eye. Feel how it would feel. Be specific and focus only on what you want and by aligning with that frequency you receive the like frequency back to you.

I don’t meditate as I should, which is silly, as I don’t sleep well and it might help. I keep getting bogged down in trying to fix things (my career, relationships, etc.) and just forget. I have been to a couple of classes lately, but they were on karma and I didn’t get a ton from them.
I’m hoping to feel better. It’s that simple. I have moderate to severe anxiety and the treatments I’ve tried haven’t helped. The one Reiki session I had was with someone in CT a few years ago when I was going through a very hard time. I imagine that it was a healing session; it opened me up quite a bit. I suppose I’m a little wary of doing that before a colleague or strangers, but I do tend to worry too much.
I’ve heard and worked with people going through a ton of stuff being in the healing realm that I am in. Most people have some level of anxiety and often especially in the corporate world I work in during the day, people tend run higher with anxiety. If it isn’t that the corporate world is not the career for that person, then it’s assisting then in living in balance while being in the career of they are currently in. Things that really help as a starting point to do with DEDICATION as often as possible are:
- Walking in nature
- Chasing your other hobbies and passions part-time
- Exercising (boost those endorphins)
- Living as Truthfully and Authentically as possible
- Breathing Deeply
A co-worker’s daughter goes to a therapist who gives her exercises to do and methods that they use with people with PTSD (that is said to be very helpful). Everyone has the right thing or things that will help them uniquely. Often it’s not one thing that helps, but a few things do make it an uplifting, holistic lifestyle change.
For me, I was out of balance for a while over a decade ago. I was 90 lbs. overweight and “unconscious”. I woke up/awakened and my path to feeling connected and right with the world again was in Energy Healing (becoming a Reiki Master Teacher and several other modalities leading me to becoming a Yoga Teacher, etc.). Having that is my release! I Love it!
It really is a challenge to have the bigger picture when we are in the muck of it. But it’s possible and it can be sustained longer and longer the more we are diligent with our mind-thoughts and meditations. If going “out there” during meditation is challenging, it can be seen as “going deeper inside”. There’s that place deep inside ALL of us that is totally untouched and at peace. That’s our light. Our core essence. We can tap into that. And we do, but just want to attempt to maintain that and keep that knowing, then expand THAT light out to the world.
Something I LOVE that Matt Kahn asks us to ponder is: Can you become aware of being aware? The awareness behind our thoughts. There is your divine essence watching the awareness. There is awareness beneath it. It’s hard to articulate, but as you meditate upon it, things become clear. He also says, “Whatever arises Love that.”
Remember the peace that is always there, always untouched by the outer world. Reconnect again. Find that peace again.
Yoga Pose of the Month
Side Crow/Side Crane
Sanskrit: Parsva Bakasana

Side Crow (or more advanced is called the Side Crane) is a great pose for strengthening the arms and the core. This pose challenges your balance and you want to be sure you gaze in the direction you are going (to the side). You might not get right into this pose on your first shot. I know I didn’t. It took a few years of practicing till I could have the abs and arm strength as well as the determined focus on my mind and body awareness for the supreme balance that comes with working in Side Crow Pose. It took hearing a different way of coming into this pose in order for my arms to really be in the right position for my body and then amazingly, my perspective changed and I came into this pose with more grace and ease. It’s still a challenging pose for me but one I look forward to practicing more often in my dedicated practice. It’s all about changing your perspective sometimes. Yet another life lesson. This pose is fantastic for strengthening the arms and wrists, toning the belly and spine as well as improving balance.
Directions on how to come into the pose:
With feet and knees together, bend down. Take your hands to the outside of your right thigh. Here you begin a twisting action in your torso to aim to the right where you will be flowing; softening the belly. Try to maintain a straight spine. First focus on your elbows. Take one elbow to the outside of your right knee and the other elbow to the outside of your hip. Even press them into your knee and hip so you are secure with position. Then leaning over, while maintaining elbow contact, press hands into the floor, fingers wide and strong. Try not to change hand positions and elbows into knee and hips throughout the pose. Hands will be shoulder distance apart. Take your gaze/drishti to the right where you will be going. Most of the weight is still in the feet.
Begin weight transference. Spine is straight and elongated. Shift your weight forward a little or a lot. Slow on your first attempts. Get used to the weight and strength in your shoulders; still keeping your feet touching the ground at this point. Then when you feel ready as you shift forward, gazing forward, neck long begin to lift one or both feet off the ground. Aiming to bring the middle of your abdomen above and between your hands. It’s balance, geometry, strengthening the arms and wrists a lot.
Advanced: Your left arm may remain slightly bent, but a more advanced version for Side Crane is to straighten it as much as you can without allowing your legs to slide down. Straighten your right arm completely. As you lift your right shoulder, twist your spine further. Lift your chest and head, and look forward. Breathe evenly and naturally.
Hold the pose for 20 seconds or longer, then lower your feet back to the floor with an exhale. Repeat it on the other side for the same length of time.
When not to do this pose or to modify / Contraindications:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, any wrist issues or back injuries will require modification in those pose. Coming into this with proper alignment and slowing and if there is any pain do not attempt this pose. Instead work on Chaturanga and Crow as alternate poses.
